About MA FASST
A Coalition Built Around Massachusetts' Students
MA FASST — Massachusetts Friends of Affordable, Safe Student Transportation — was formed by parents, educators, school administrators, government leaders, and community advocates who share a simple conviction: Massachusetts' framework for student transportation has not kept pace with the complex, individualized needs of today's students. Thousands of children — students with special needs, students in foster care, and students experiencing homelessness — are being underserved by a costly system built for a different era.
We believe that student transportation must be affordable for districts that are already under severe budget pressure, flexible enough to serve every student's actual needs, and safe without compromise. These are not competing goals. They are all achievable — and dozens of states have already shown how. Massachusetts, despite ranking among the top-spending states in the country on student transportation, has not yet caught up.
Our Coalition
MA FASST's advocacy is powered by a growing coalition of parents, school administrators, disability advocates, community organizations, and transportation professionals from across Massachusetts. We reflect the diversity of the state we serve — urban districts like Boston and Fall River, suburban and rural districts, families of students with disabilities, advocates for children experiencing homelessness, and taxpayers who believe public dollars should serve students first.
We welcome any parent, educator, administrator, or organization that believes Massachusetts' student transportation system can and should do better. If you share our commitment to affordability, flexibility, and safety, we want your voice in this coalition.
